Introduction

Information Technology today has transformed the way people live world over. Over the past twenty years since the advent of modern computers, the day to day activities of mankind has undergone a sea of change. Human resources is the backbone of the information technology industry. With its vast potential in human resources and the prevalence of English as a medium of instruction predominantly, India today houses majority of software professionals. Since the early 80’s the industry started capitalising on this vast potential of human resources. Several institutions started offering courses and training programs and the software industry in India started booming largely due to the availability of highly skilled manpower. The industry as a whole is growing at the rate of 64% and software exports for the current year are going towards the $6 billion mark. With such being the case, it is increasingly being felt in Indian IT circle that there is an urgent need to develop quality Software Professionals and Research centers so that India can always remain on the leading edge as far as IT is concerned. ICIA aims at fulfilling this objective through its various activities concerned with IT in India.

Mission

The association seeks to meet the professional needs and interest of members. It shall pursue its purpose through advancing scientific knowledge, Technology and Education in Advanced Information Technologies for optimized beneficial utilization by society at large. It aims  

  1. to nurture Advanced Technological capabilities for all people and promote the professionalism of those engaged in this pursuit.

  2. to improve the accessibility of Information Technology for all members of the association.

Main Objects:

The main Objects of ICIA are,

  • to carry out various Research and Development Projects in the field of Information Technology.

  • to promote the development of Institutions devoted to teaching and research in Information Technology.

  • to support Individual researchers and research oriented organisations in the field.

  • to spread the awareness and knowledge of Information Technology throughout India.

  • to conduct IT seminars and workshops on latest Technologies.

  • to encourage the development of an indigenous computer industry.

  • to help and advise companies in the development, marketing and export of computer hardware and software.

  • to supply software and hardware to the member institutions.

  • to avoid duplication of effort.

  • to achieve economy of scale.

  • to provide a measure of standardization throughout the country.

What is ICIA?

Indian Computer Institute Association (ICIA) is  into  Research and Development in the field of Information Technology. ICIA co-ordinates with renowned universities and  IT companies in various Research and Development projects. ICIA also aims at popularizing the use of Information Technology in general and strengthening Information Technology throughout the academic and commercial communities in India.   In view of  developing a rich pool of Quality Software Development professionals who can lead India to the forefront of Information Technology and set High Standards for the budding professionals to follow, ICIA provides access to various resources for Educational and Research purposes to Member Institutions.

ICIA was set up with an initiative to implement the suggestions put forward by  Professor Bannerjee and Professor Y. Balasundaram, and it now has the membership of  various renowned Institutions, Universities, Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics and Research and Development establishments throughout the country. In addition to providing hardware, software and Training Services to Member Institutions, ICIA also organizes training courses, seminars and conferences to help the Member Institutions learn more about the latest developments in the IT sector. The state-of-the Art Technical support center based at Bangalore serves as a Nerve Center for the Member Institutions to get help regarding any technical problem in Hardware and Software.  Professionally trained Staff in diverse platforms are available to provide Technical assistance to Member Institutions.

Board of Governance

ICIA is supported by many government bodies, state governments and other organizations from India and Abroad. It also has a trading function which generates a small, though significant, additional income. ICIA doesn’t charge any professional fees from Member Institutions and the membership is absolutely FREE. However, at present only Government and Government aided Organizations/Institutions and other Non-Profit Educational and Research Institutions can avail the membership.

The Governing Body of ICIA consists of Eminent Personalities from renowned Institutions and the Information Technology industry. An Executive Panel also functions under the auspices of the Governing Body which oversees the functioning of the Association.

Board of Governors

ICIA is a thoroughly professional body and has at its helm an elected Chairman assisted by a Vice Chairman. The official duties and responsibilities assigned to the Secretary and the Treasurer involve maintaining of the accounts and other financial functions of the Association. In addition to these Office Bearers, there are 8 Board Members who take important policy decisions as and when required.
